Father Charles Mangano
On a warm summer evening in 1999, a young charismatic priest stood in front of a microphone before 40,000 people in Lourdes,
France. A deafening silence fell over the crowd as he began to sing the words of "Gentle Woman", a ballad praising Mary, the
Mother of God. Yet if this priest had listened to the words of a music teacher from his childhood this moment would have never
taken place.
Father Charles' musical interests began at the age of twelve. Although his music teacher told him that he was tone deaf, he
persevered through the encouragement of his family and the grace of God. At sixteen he was playing guitar and singing for a
weekly prayer group. Over the next several years, Father Charles played with the family band, entered CYO competitions, played
for various church functions and was in an off Broadway production.
Father Charles' love of music developed into a much deeper and stronger love - his love of the Lord. He was ordained a Roman
Catholic priest for the diocese of Rockville Centre in 1990. Shortly after, he began to integrate his music into his priestly ministry.
"Through my music, I hope to bring people closer to God and to aid them in their journey toward wholeness and integration". It was
during his first assignment at St. Catherine of Sienna that people began to encourage him to share his gift of music by recording it
professionally. Through the encouragement and financial backing of his parishioners, family and friends, Father Charles released
his first album, LEAD ME LORD, in the fall of 1992. Due to the overwhelming response, he soon began work on his second album,
I CALL YOU FRIEND, and enlisted the vocal talent of his sister Laurie, and the services of musical arranger, Angelo DiPippo.
Father Charles and Laurie produced five additional albums, THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS, TRUST HIS HEART, CELEBRATE
JESUS, A CHRISTMAS PRAYER and GOD'S UNBELIEVABLE LOVE along with producing videos and a DVD of their major
concert events. They have performed internationally and completed ten seasons as hosts of their own television show, GOD IS
GOOD, a program of faith sharing, music and prayer on Long Island’s Telecare Network and Brooklyn and Manhattan’s The
Prayer Channel, which also aired Laurie’s “New York Woman”. They have appeared at countless venues from "Nights of
Recollection" at local parishes to sold-out concerts at Westbury Music Fair (now known as Northfork Theater), the Tilles Center for
the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts at Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York City as well as
the Cathedral Basilica of St. James, Brooklyn.
Their goal has always been the same, to convey the awesome love of God so that people will be touched with a renewed sense of
faith and the courage to live it out. As such, a portion of the proceeds from all album sales and ticketed events go to several
charities, including Little Flower Children's and Family Services of New York, Catholic Charities, The Life Center of Long Island,
Father Thomas Hartman Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Inc., Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation for Catholic Elementary School
Education, the Carol Baldwin Breast Care Center and the West Maui Domestic Abuse Task Force. To date, Father Charles and
Laurie have donated in excess of $285,000 to these and other worthwhile causes.
Father Charles continues in his primary vocation as a parish priest. He is currently pastor of the Curé of Ars Church in Merrick, New
York. He has also taken an active role in fostering vocations to the priesthood and religious life by leading annual vocation
pilgrimages. Father Charles continues to pray that God will be glorified through his priesthood, which he has consecrated to Our
Lady.
Laurie Mangano
A native of Long Island, Laurie began singing as a young child in elementary school, as well as in the folk group of her local parish.
It was at this early age that she was singled out among other children as having a unique talent. Singing in church taught and
challenged her to examine her heart. As Laurie recalls, she discovered God through song. She continues to have an intimate
relationship with God, relying on Him for strength, compassion, and companionship.
Laurie and other family members formed a band, performed at local functions and won many awards. These early performances
paved the way for a budding solo career, but left her unfulfilled. "Performing was fun but something very deep was missing. Singing
for God gave purpose to my song." She performed liturgical dance and sang throughout Long Island with the Spirit Life Center. As
an active member of her local parish, she was a cantor and religious education teacher. After her brother's ordination to the
priesthood, Father Charles invited Laurie to join in his new music ministry. This presented her with the opportunity to use her
angelic voice in a way she always dreamed. To further express her passion for God, Laurie studied sign language and uses sign
with song in this ministry.
Along with her music ministry, Laurie is first and foremost a devoted wife and mother. She has been a volunteer at The Life Center
of Long Island and developed a modeling career, gracing the pages of the New York Times and Modern Bride, to name just two
publications. She has also done runway work in Manhattan and has been seen in several corporate video productions and television
commercials. While modeling and volunteering were very important to her, Laurie now dedicates her time to this ever growing music
ministry with her brother. "It is an honor to be the instrument by which God is doing His Work. I will go wherever God leads me for
as long as He wishes."

While Father Charles and Laurie were singing on the stage of Westbury Music Fair, their sold out audience was treated to a
spectacular evening of a real musical feast celebrating the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.
This brother and sister team began singing in their youth at various church functions. They discovered God and faith through song.

Bernadette Scott founded the Love Movement in 1972. The group was born out of Bernadette’s desire to use her musical
talents to help raise funds for the underprivileged in Trinidad & Tobago
The Love Movement started out as a ladies choir made up of 15 members of the St. Ann’s R.C. Church Choir and their
first concert was held in 1973. By 1975 the group had become a mixed choir as ten young men joined their friends. Since
then it has remained a small choir with a maximum of 35 members. It is a voluntary organization and everyone gives of his
or her time and talent freely.
Since that first production The Love Movement has blossomed into one of the Country’s most exciting choirs, bringing a
fresh charisma to choral music and setting a high standard in local entertainment. Since its inception The Love Movement
has successfully staged major concerts annually, donating all the proceeds to the underprivileged and our Youth Outreach
Programme.
Youth Outreach Programme:
Over the years, the members of The Love Movement have grown increasingly concerned about the lifestyles of the young
people in Trinidad & Tobago, especially their lack of moral standards, the increase in their use of drugs and alcohol and
their involvement in illicit sex. The Love Movement realized that their call lay in using their talents to reach out to the
youth through music, offering them alternatives to their present lifestyle. The group began a series of youth concerts,
starting in July 1990. At these concerts the group shared with their audiences the life-changing experiences of other youth
who could be their role models.
These Outreach Concerts were an astounding success, with hundreds of young people attending and sharing
enthusiastically in the music. Following each Outreach show interested teenagers were invited to make a commitment to
the group’s youth meetings. These meetings included sessions of prayer counseling and exposure to the performing arts.
The response was staggering. Out of the concerts and meetings was born what is today known as The Love Movement
Youth Outreach Programme
Because The Love Movement is an unsponsored choir it has to continuously raise funds by having Take-aways, Raffles,
Tea Parties etc. The group also appeals to the Business Community from which Deeds of Covenant are sometimes
obtained, since The Love Movement is a registered charitable organization.
Many organizations in the country have specially designed programmes for young people, but what makes The Love
Movement Youth Outreach Programme different and attractive to the youth is the emphasis on using and developing their
natural talents in the field of creative and performing arts. This becomes the foundation on which their self-esteem,
discipline, moral principles and holistic development takes place. Through the unconditional love and support of
Bernadette Scott and The Love Movement members, lives are transformed and emotional wounds healed. The programme
is offered free of charge to any young person between the ages of twelve and twenty-one and meetings are held each
week.
The Love Movement has had to deal with cases of attempted suicide, sexual abuse, physical abuse and the ills of negative
peer pressure and the breakdown in communication between the youth and their parents. Many young people have been
able to rise above their problems and recover, becoming productive citizens of Trinidad & Tobago, due to the assistance
they received in The Love Movement Youth Outreach Programme
Renovation of Youth Centre:
In not having a “home” of its own, The Love Movement was offered the opportunity to share a Government owned
building at 5 Second Avenue Cascade in 1992. This was decided after Bernadette Scott held discussions with the then
Prime-Minister Mr. Patrick Manning, who gave his blessing to the programme and pledged the Government’s support.
Assistance was also received from the American Government who found the Outreach Programme to be a very necessary
and commendable project. Work began in July 1993 to renovate the underneath of the present building for The Love
Movement’s specific needs.
National Award – Humming Bird Medal Gold
In 1991 Bernadette Scott was awarded the Humming Bird Gold Medal by the President of the Republic in recognition of
her contribution to the country and community in the field of music and community work.
Junior Choir Formed:
In 1992 The Love Movement Junior Choir “Lights of Love” was born, after many requests from parents for help to shape
the lives of their young ones while they were still pliable. Children between the ages of six and sixteen attend weekly
meetings where, once again, prayer, music and drama are used to help these young ones to develop holistically.
First Overseas Tour:
In 1996 The Love Movement toured Barbados and New York, sharing the love and music that had transformed so many
lives at home, with the people of Barbados and in New York - the people of Harlem, Brooklyn, Long Island and other
areas. The flag of Trinidad & Tobago was held high and nationals living abroad felt extremely proud and happy. This tour
was sponsored by BWIA and the people of Barbados and New York.
Many of The Love Movement’s songs have become Nation building songs, such as “People of La Trinity” and “Christmas
In Our Lovely Twin Islands”. The Love Movement is the only Choir that has been involved in community work and
outreach to such a large extent. It is also probably the only choir in Trinidad & Tobago that is still being directed by its
founder since 1972!
Guardian “Woman of Trinidad & Tobago Award”
In 1996 Bernadette Scott received an award from the Guardian Newspaper for being one of the ten finalists in their first
“Woman of Trinidad & Tobago” award, where outstanding women were honoured for their tremendous contribution to the
Country.
Wheel Of Love:
A new programme called “Wheel of Love” was started in 1997 and was offered to the youth. This programme
incorporates the fundamentals of the original programme but in a more structured format. It is based on the holistic
approach to personal development. Areas that are being dealt with are Business Skills, Spirituality, Family Life, Self-
Development, Social Development and the Performing Arts. The members of The Love Movement Senior, Youth and
Children’s Choirs have an opportunity to display their talent and all they have learned in the field of the Performing Arts at
our Annual Concerts. These experiences have impacted greatly and positively on their lives as self-confidence is
developed. Many of them have used this training as a stepping-stone to making a career in the field.
A great deal of money is spent on the academic development of our Young people, but The Love Movement has realized
that without the other areas of their lives being addressed, ie. Spiritual, moral and emotional, young people fall apart when
these areas of their lives are infringed on. All the “academics” come to naught as no one can function with a spirit in
turmoil, hence The Love Movement emphasis on developing these areas in our young people’s lives.
Some Events over the Years....
From a fifteen-voice ladies choir, three distinct groups have emerged, the Senior Choir, Youth Outreach Programme and
the Children’s Choir all working together in a spirit of love, co-operation and understanding that we are all special and
created by a loving God for a specific purpose. Thousands of lives have been affected because a small group of people has
given of their love, talents and time to help make a difference in the lives and citizens of Trinidad & Tobago.
Express Newspaper Award
In 1997 the national newspaper, The Trinidad Express honoured The Love Movement by awarding the group a citation for
their involvement in community work in Trinidad & Tobago.
2nd Overseas Tour of New York and Toronto – April 1998
The Love Movement was honoured to be invited once again to perform for charity in New York and for the first time in
Toronto. We are deeply appreciative of BWIA Toronto for part-sponsoring the cost of the airline tickets and to all our
friends in New York and Toronto who worked so hard to make this tour a reality.
Humming Bird Medal Gold- August 1998
In 1998 The Love Movement was awarded a National Award, The Humming Bird Medal, Gold for their service to the
Nation, in the field of community work by the President of the Republic.
3rd Overseas Tour to Barbados – April 1999
The Love Movement toured Barbados at the invitation of BWIA in April 1999. The Love Movement was honoured to be
a part of BWIA’s fund-raising efforts for charity and the people of the Caribbean. The Love Movement performed at a
sold out charity concert on Saturday April 17th at the Sherbourne Conference Centre. The Audience was so enthusiastic
about what they were experiencing, that they gave standing ovations at the end of each section of the concert!! A truly
memorable show!
4th Overseas Tour to New York – April 2000
The Love Movement performed to packed audiences at the world famous Tilles Centre for the Performing Arts in Long
Island. The calypso section was especially well received and the audience gave a standing ovation.
St. Dominics join the Youth Outreach Programme
In May 2000, Bernadette invited youngsters from the St. Dominic’s Home (an orphanage for girls and boys up to 18 years
old) to join the Youth Outreach. It has been wonderful to see them develop and bloom since they joined in May.
Express Newspaper Award Received
In Dec 2000 the Express Newspaper honoured The Love Movement’s Childrens Choir The Lights of Love by awarding the
group a citation for their outstanding contribution to the culture of Trinidad & Tobago in the field of youth during the year
2000.
4th Overseas Tour to Barbados
In April 2001, the Senior Choir was invited by BWIA Barbados, to perform charity concerts at the Frank Collymore Hall
in Bridgetown. The concerts were sold out and audiences participated, waving flags and having a great time, especially in
our Calypso section.
St. Judes and St. Michaels join the Youth Outreach Programme
In May of 2001, young people from the St. Michaels School for Boys and the St. Jude’s Home for Girls joined our Youth
Outreach Programme. These are both institutions for the rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents. It is truly wonderful to see
their enthusiasm at rehearsals. They give us strength to keep the work going
Inspirational CD Released
In December 2001, we released our newest CD “A Movement of Love”, a compilation of 18 tracks of original,
inspirational music, written by Bernadette Scott with some co-written by Derek Fields of Barbados. This CD was only
possible through the corporate sponsorship of Republic Bank Limited and The Colonial Life Insurance Co. Ltd. The CD
has been extremely well received.
April 2002 – Vatican Chooses the Senior Choir to Perform at World Youth Day 2002
The Love Movement received news that the Senior Choir had been chosen by the Vatican from 500 other submissions, to
be one of the 47 groups to perform at the World Youth Day Festival Week in Toronto, Canada. The only group chosen
from Trinidad & Tobago and one of three from the Caribbean, the others being Grenada and Jamaica. Indeed a
tremendous honour, both for the Group and for Trinidad & Tobago, but also an enormous task to raise ¼ million TT$ to
cover the cost of 45 members airfare to Toronto in the space of 2 months. We thank God for the tremendous support
received from members of the Trinidad & Tobago business community, the Government, as well as a number of individuals
who assisted us to achieve our goal!!
July 2002 – CD “Island Spirit” Released
This CD is a compilation of original music composed by Bernadette Scott, which was previously only available on cassette
tape. It also includes a new composition “The Cry of the Unborn” in support of the movement against abortion.
July 2003 – Concert “An Incredible Love” at Queen’s Hall
This concert was an INCREDIBLE success and played to sold-out audiences at Queen’s Hall, it featured all three groups
The Lights of Love Children’s choir, The Youth Outreach and The Senior Choir.
April 2004 – Concert “An Incredible Love” at Naparima Bowl
Once again this concert got rave reviews from the audiences, some travelled from Port of Spain as they had heard about
the July 2003 concert and had missed it. This concert also featured, Fr. Charles Mangano, the singing priest from Long
Island, New York.
July 2004 – Concert “An Incredible Love” at the Frank Collymore Hall, Bridgetown Barbados
The Love Movement Senior Choir was invited by the Soroptimist Club of Jamestown, Barbados to go to Barbados to
perform three charity concerts in aid of their “Stepping Stone Project”. Once again, the audience was in awe of the
excellence and variety of the music included in the concerts. This time Derek Fields a well known Barbadian singer,
composer and musician was a guest performer.
Sophia House Joins Youth
Members of the Sophia House institution joined the Youth Outreach Programme.
November 2004 – CD “A Christmas To Remember” released
The Love Movement released their much acclaimed Christmas CD at their annual Tea Party and Concert at the Hilton
Trinidad & Conference Centre. It has received rave reviews.
September 2005 – “More Love More Power” Youth Outreach Concerts Begin along with FFMM
The Love Movement Senior Choir and the Youth Outreach Choir under the sponsorship of Republic Bank Limited began a
series of Free Gospel concerts aimed at “healing the land”. The first one was held at Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive
School and was a tremendous success. Also in September the Franciscan and Friends Music Mission Group came to
Trinidad from Canada and the USA to perform along with The Love Movement at various functions throughout Trinidad
over a 2 week period.
October 2005 – The Love Movement to Receive a Sunshine Award
The Love Movement Senior Choir traveled to New York in October to receive an Award and perform at the event. Once
again, they had the audience dancing in the aisles.
November 2005 – “Faces of Love”
All three groups performed at Queen’s Hall in our annual Christmas Concert at Queen’s Hall and were very well received.
Patrons remarked that “This was the best show ever!”
April 2006 – Abstinence Programme
The Youth Outreach members took part in a 12 week abstinence programme run by the Ministries of Health & Education.
During the programme doctors, teachers and young people gave talks encouraging abstinence until marriage. At the end of
the 12 weeks they received certificates of participation from the Minister of Health.
May 2006 - “More Love More Power” Concerts
These Youth Outreach Concerts continued with one being done in Princes Town.
July 2006 – Annual Tea Party
This was held for the 1st time at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre. Taking part were all three groups the Senior Choir,
The Youth and the Children, “Lights of Love”. The audience was very appreciative and a good time was had by all.
November 2006 – “A Celebration of Love”
Love Movement’s Annual Christmas Concert was held at Queen’s Hall at the end of November to sold out audiences. For
the 1st time a charity show for young people was sponsored by members of the Business Community. Children and young
people from 40 institutions across Trinidad were treated to this Concert. They had such a wonderful time and it made our

Love Movement celebrated 35 years in 2007 and several events were planned to commemorate this milestone:
May 2007
A Gospel Concert “The Power of Love” was held on May 6th at Queen’s Hall to a sell-out and extremely appreciative
audience. At this concert we released the new CD “Dare To Dream” with original compositions by the Republic Bank
Love Movement Youth Outreach.
July 2007
Our 35th Anniversary Mass was celebrated at Holy Name Convent Chapel on July 29th.
November 2007
A Christmas Concert was held at Queen’s Hall in November in celebration of 35 years.
June 2008
The Love Movement Choirs performed at a ceremony held by the Bridge of Hope Foundation in Sangre Grande to
celebrate their 10th Anniversary of work with underprivileged children in the area.
October 2008
Love Movement held its Annual Concert in October this year. The music was mainly Gospel with a little Beatles and Abba
and Disney to add a light touch. The theme was “Music to Touch and Heal Hearts”. These concerts were very well
attended and patrons expressed how much they had been touched by the music; especially one song called “I Want To Be
Just Like You” where Bernadette had invited the Fathers of Love Movement to join with the Children and Senior Choir
Men. “It was very moving to see so many Men standing up for Jesus”, said one member of the audience.
November 2008
Performed Christmas songs at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at a function produced by Brian Mac Farlane in appreciation of
Hyatt Regency Customers.
December 2008
Free open air Christmas show was held again at Adam Smith Square in Woodbrook sponsored by Republic Bank Ltd for
the people of Trinidad & Tobago on December 13th.
May 2009
The Youth Outreach and the Senior Choir performed at a free open air Gospel Concert. This was held with the kind
sponsorship of Republic Bank Ltd and in conjunction with the Chinapoo Police Youth Club at the Chinapoo Government
Primary School in Morvant. The audience was extremely appreciative many of them saying how wonderful it was that we
were willing to come to Morvant to sing for them and that they were very touched by the concert.
July 2009
A Tea Party and Concert was held at The Hyatt Regency Ballroom. At this function our first Gospel CD “I’m Forgiven”
was launched. The audience as usual was blown away by the beauty of the music!

The Love Movement Shines at Music Awards
We are all familiar with award ceremonies such as the Oscars, the Grammys and the Dove Awards, but have you
heard of the Unity Awards? Hosted by the United Catholic Music and Video Association (UCMVA), which was
founded in 2000 in the USA where Catholic musicians and Catholic video producers joined together in an
association of unity. The purpose of this association is to support, encourage and promote the development of all
forms of Catholic oriented Christian music and video. This includes: Liturgical, Praise and Worship,
Contemporary and Instrumental Compositions. This organisation held the first ever Unity Awards in November of
2000. This year, Calgary, Canada hosted the awards on August 28th.
Catholic oriented music and video productions have grown and become diversified throughout the years, but their
purpose and intention has remained consistent and focused on "Keeping the Faith Alive" and spreading God's
message of Unity, Love and Evangelization. The purpose of the UNITY AWARDS is to honour the achievements
and excellence in various categories of music and video. The Unity awards embrace entries from all over the
world vying for forty-nine categories in music and video.
The Love Movement was a finalist in 2008 for Group of the Year and Album of The Year with their Rosary CD
“PRAY”. Upon the release of their last CD entitled, “I’m Forgiven” they felt motivated to submit this highly
acclaimed collection of inspirational songs in twelve categories of the Unity Awards. One month prior to the
awards, Bernadette Scott-Musical Director/Founder of the Love Movement received word that the CD was a
finalist in all twelve categories. Unable to physically attend the awards, Scott and the Love Movement members
were elated to learn that their CD had won three major awards:
1.International Album of the Year for “I'm Forgiven”
2.International Song of the Year for “I will Carry You” featuring soloist Lesley Lewis-Alleyne
3.International Artist/Group of the Year
Lesley Lewis-Alleyne's soulful interpretation of “I will Carry You” blew away the competition. It is the 1st time
that a Caribbean Group has won in three categories. This achievement is a first for the Love Movement and
Trinidad & Tobago, but according to Scott, she feels very humbled as it is all God’s work.
The search for new and soul-stirring music was spear-headed by Jeffrey Montano a member of The Love
Movement who now lives in Vancouver BC. The Production Team led by Bernadette Scott and Jean-Marc
Tardieu, spent months listening to and selecting tracks that would touch the hearts and lives of any listener.
Many hours were spent in the recording studio working along with Corey Burnham our studio. engineer. Once
completed the tracks were sent to world-class engineer and life-long friend Graham Wilson in Canada to be mixed
and edited. The CD was then mastered by Martin “Mice” Raymond of Champion Sound. The beautiful cover
design and CD packaging was designed by Rhadica Boyce and was nominated for an award and was a finalist in
the category of CD packaging and design. “I'm Forgiven” was launched at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in July 2009
and was an instant success. It is still receiving rave reviews from listeners at home and abroad.
“I’m Forgiven was certainly a work appointed and blessed by God. All the members in The Love Movement put
so much effort and heart into this album and we felt truly blessed and honoured to win against all the seasoned and
popular artists from so many countries including Marilla Ness”, says Bernadette

The Love Movement will be performimg at Lincoln Center in New York City on December 11, 2010 in the 5th
annual, "Merry Christmas, New York City!" concert produced by Mrs. Lynn Geyer and are presently fund-raising
to cover tour expenses.
They are also very busy at present preparing for their annual fund-raising Christmas production “Reflections of
Love” to be held at Queen's Hall from November 5th through November 7th where they will be releasing a new
Christmas CD.
